Jerry Jeff Walker - Sangria Wine

I love that sangria wine, Jerry Jeff Walker, one of the reasons country music is good, although I prefer the term cowboy music. The picture obviously isn't of sangria wine, but I think it fits the spirit of the song, it's me with some friends at the Guinness factory in Dublin

Tribute to Cowboy Boots: 'Charlie Dunn', Jerry Jeff Walker

READ THIS: Charlie Dunn loved this song and his friends sang it at his funeral in 1993. Charlie was in his early 80's when he made my boots back in 1973. Jerry Jeff Walker's ode to Charlie is a classic tribute to custom bootmakers and aficionados. I remember when Charlie was tracing my foot measurements and questioned me about the t-shirt and boots I was wearing. Before I could utter a word Charlie said, "Clarks beeswax desert treks--English". Aside from dress shoes I've only wore Clarks boots (I think he liked that). He was puzzled though by my explanation of the, 'Wishbone Ash' English band t-shirt. I told him I worked for Jerry Jeff Walker's record company . And Charlie just smiled and went on and on about Ol' Scamp Walker, his new best friend. Note: 'Buck' was the owner operator of the Capitol Saddlery (my boots cost $310 and Buck required a $150 cash deposit...such a deal). Looking back, I'm glad Henry Withers (MCA/Universal Music Group-Houston office) brought his camera to capture the moment on film. Video features archive photos of Charlie and I at the Capitol Saddlery in Austin, my monogrammed Charlie Dunn boots, and me wearing the boots for a promotion shoot on the backlot of Universal. Also includes photos of Jerry Jeff and Jimmy Buffet. If I was ever to own custom monogrammed cowboy boots in my lifetime, I was indeed fortunate to have them handcrafted by the legendary Charlie Dunn. As the story goes, it was this song, that inspired Lee Miller to make boots. Lee ...

JERRY JEFF WALKER ~ Mr Bojangles ~.wmv

Jerry Jeff Walker ~ MR BOJANGLES ~ ( JJ Walker). I am dedicating this song to my cousin who is fighting in harms way in Afghanistan. "Mr Bojangles" is a song writtten and recorded in 1968. The song was inspired by an encounter with a street performer in the New Orleans First Precinct jail and refers to neither the famous stage and movie dancer "Bill Bojangles" Robinson nor the New Orleans blues musician Babe Stovall. According to Walker, a murder on the 4th of July weekend in 1965 precipitatied the arrest of all the street people in the area. In the crowded cell, a disheveled homeless man began to talk to Walker, who had been arrested earlier for drunkeness. The man told various stories of his life, but the tone darkened after "Mr Bojangles" recalled his dog who`d been run over. Someone then asked for something to lighten the mood, and the man obliged with a tap dance. Walker mentions that all the men in the cell had nicknames to prevent easy misidentification by the police. The dancer`s name was "Mr Bojangles". In his autobiography, Walker makes it clear that the man he met was white. Walker pointed out, at the time, the jail in New Orleans were segregated by color."
Jerry Jeff Walker - Desperados Waiting For A Train

This I think has to be my favorite Jerry Jeff Walker song. This one I got from the Ultimate collection CD. I believe this was originally released on the Viva Terlingua album in 1973.

JERRY JEFF WALKER - Contrary To Ordinary (Live w/ lyrics)

LYRICS: Well I never lived my life, through other people's eyes Guess I've always been, ridin' through storms twice my size I've always been a drifter, guess I always will Be runnin' toward a sunset, far side of some hill And a one-man band, and a one man gypsy circus Been finding every piece of this puzzle has a purpose Drifting and dreaming, that must be my fate To be grinning down my devils, Lord Raising with aces and eights And I was contrary to ordinary, even as a child Fast freights made me wonder, Full moons drove me wild And stories do come true, you live life in episodes With one eye on the ladies, now, and one eye still on the road So when I die explain, don't put no tombstone on my grave Just have ten of my friends, sail my ashes out on over the waves Don't get no preaching down, just to tighten up the past Just tell 'em all I liked to live, I loved to sing, dance, and to laugh And I was contrary to ordinary, even as a child Fast freights made me wonder Full moons drove me wild And stories do come true, you live life in episodes With one eye on the ladies, now, and one eye still on the road With one eye on the ladies, now And one eye's always on that open road

Linked Jesse Winchester's vid to Facebook's "Classic Songs Flea Market & Listening Room" with a comment that every time I read Jerry Jeff's album liner mention of that original, I wondered what it sounded like until I finally happened to hear it. Good friend who runs a Natchez eatery/drinkery said they often play Jesse's but he'd never heard Jerry Jeff's. OK, Frank, turnabout is foreplay; here y'all are.

Mr Bojangles - Jerry Jeff Walker (Cover)

Tonight I'm taking a break from Gord. While it's true that he is King, there are other great songwriters and songs out there, and I wouldn't want you all to think that I eat, drink, and sleep GL everyday (Even if I do). As you likely know, this song was a #9 Billboard hit in 1971 for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. But it was written by Jerry Jeff Walker and tells a true story about a talented but troubled dance man he met while behind bars in New Orleans. There are many Bojangles' out there. This is for them. As for GL, I will return to him soon. Maybe tomorrow! Requests are starting to come in so get on the list! (Of course, I have to confess I probably won't follow any particular order.) Thanks for Listening!
